Unable to Wait

Unable to wait for now to arrive
I get back in the car and drive
Half a million miles further from where I was before
Having what little hope held safe in the glove box

What happens when you wait
Long enough to quiet the thoughts
Swirling in the eye of a storm
Holding back any sort of emotion
For protection against the levee bursting

Toast is a classic meal
Be it wheat, white, rye, potato, or sourdough
Even an English muffin can hold
Every ingredient so long as there’s butter
Another golden slab
Making everything better

Slowly melting away like a sunset
Absorbed into a new form

Holding it together
Two hands on the wheel
